When I was a kid, my father used to make the joke that pigs can see wind. They are the only animal in the world that can actually see the wind. I used to wonder about that. What does it look like? Does it have color? Can the pigs see through the wind, because if they cannot then there would be lots of days that they could not even go outside. Maybe they can just see some sort of indicator. It could be that pigs are some sort of alien cyber organism that uses various kinds of sensors and indicators and have an internal multi display readout for their site/desktop, and wind is just a small icon down in the corner that gives them information, along with topographical information good food source information when the alien invasion is coming kind of information.
Pigs could actually be some kind of sentinal sent here centuries prior to keep tabs on us and report back when we have developed a better food source than the burrito, the alien invasion will be on then. Hide your burritos.
Apparantly I am not the only yahoo that questions if it is true that pigs can see the wind. As it turns out, my father did not even invent it. Later in life, I realize that he stole the whole theme from a Johnny Cash song, Death & Hell.

Cats can fly from nine stories high.
And pigs can see the wind."
My father also used to walk up to you and say, "pull my finger". Don't do it.
So of course, I did what any good father would do. I sat my kids down when they were little and impressionable, and in my most serious voice, I told them that without a doubt, "Pigs are the only animal on earth that can actually see the wind. Watch out for them." They believed me. How could they help but to believe it, they had tiny underdeveloped brains? In fact, they believed it so completely they actually never questioned it. They both got all the way into their high school years before they ever questioned it. They both found them saying things like "Pigs can see wind! Have you people never heard this?" The best was when the younger one actually started to argue with the teacher in her science class. Suckers.
Yesterday was the annual Trek 100 bike ride. It is a great event. A few thousand people show up at Trek and ride their bikes. They all have made donations and/or are gathering pledges to make a donation to the MACC fund. It is a great cause, and all the money goes to help fight childhood cancer. Trek has been involved for more than 20 years. Since 1990, the Trek 100 has contributed almost $10 million to support pediatric cancer and related blood disorder research! Like I said, it is a great cause.
Of course the point of my first thoughts are that it was pretty hot and windy yesterday. Not Alabama hot, but 90+, which is pretty hot for Wisconsin in early June. (It is the heat that makes it so hot.) I was definately a pig, because all I could see at the front of the group was wind, wind wind.
