Ripon College announced recently that they're helping their students kick their dependence on their cars and freeing up a ton of parking spaces in Ripon, WI. The administration is fronting a bike, not only a bike but the Trek 820, to every incoming freshman that pledges not to bring a car on campus. They call it the "Velorution", a nice little play on words that hopefully will be a nice model for larger schools to follow. Ripon is a small liberal arts school but often change starts in some of the smallest places (Please refer to Horton Hears a Who) and grows into the popular conscience. For what it lacks in student numbers, Ripon can claim something that no other institution can. Harrison Ford attended Ripon college. How many schools can say that they taught Indiana Jones and Han Solo how to get down? No wonder he was skeptical of Jedi training. I checked the Ripon website and can't find "Jedi" as a major or even a class on it. Not even a weekend seminar.
Speaking of Indiana Jones, is anybody else super psyched about the new Indy flick? If you haven't seen the trailer yet, click here. I've heard the jokes about Indy fighting the commies with a walker but I figure if we can joke endlessly about Chuck Norris' chin actually being a third fist, Dr. Jones can still throw down.
